To start off the year, I would like to announce the Fitness-Exercise-Move-You-Just-Have-To-Do-Right-Now of the Day. Drumroll, please!
The Squat!!! (recommended 10-20)
Sure, they’re not really anyone’s favorite exercise move, but squats have a lot to offer. They are great for your legs and core muscles, and can have you cursing the universe in huffing breaths of sweaty exhaustion in just seconds (which means they’re working!). Squats also improve your flexibility and balance, and get your blood pumping so you have a clearer head. Unsolvable problem at work? Think it through with some squats! Can’t solve the daily crossword puzzle? Squats! Legs feeling tense and restless? Squats!
If you’ve never squatted before, here’s how:
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and slowly bend your knees until you are at a 90 degree angle. Hold for a second and then stand up straight, making sure to breathe inward as you squat and outward as you rise. For extra effectiveness you can hold on to a pair of dumbbells (available for purchase on our website) or weights and get your arms working for it as well. Below is a mildly helpful drawing:
